Can We Really Feel On Top of the World Every Day?
In this next series, we’re going to reflect on the idea of peak performance.
The Allure (and Illusion) of Peak Performance
Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to stay in that “peak performance” zone all the time? You know the feeling—crystal-clear focus, unstoppable motivation, and the sense that you can handle anything life throws your way. It’s electrifying. It’s addictive.
Recently, I spent an afternoon with a group of driven executives. One question kept echoing around the room:
“How do you tap into that peak performance feeling, even when you’re just…not feeling it?”
As I left, that question lingered. Can we really expect ourselves to feel invincible every day? Or is there a more sustainable way to harness our true potential?
Why We Chase Peak Performance
Let’s be honest: we all want to feel purposeful, valued, and in control. Peak performance promises all that—and more. Social media and hustle culture glorify being “on” 24/7. But beneath the drive is a simple human need: to know that our efforts matter.
Why do we crave this feeling?
Desire for growth: We want to see our efforts pay off.
Recognition and validation: We crave acknowledgment for our hard work.
The weight of expectations: External pressures from stakeholders, colleagues, and loved ones shape our goals.
But is it realistic—or even healthy—to expect ourselves to be at 100% every day?
Stay tuned for Part 2, where we’ll explore how the pursuit of peak performance impacts not just ourselves, but our teams and workplace culture.
